A New Home: Prime Produce

We’re thrilled to announce that Moving Rasa has a new central hub at Prime Produce, a cooperative community space in Hell’s Kitchen between 9th and 10th Avenues on 54th Street. Prime Produce is home to over twenty member organizations—nonprofits and social entrepreneurs whose projects range from turtle restoration (finding adoptive parents for abandoned turtles) to bone broth lattes, theater and dance classes for children with autism, and now, Moving Rasa.

It’s a truly inspiring ecosystem of people doing creative, community-based work. The first floor hosts a large performance workshop space where we will do our Fall Fundraiser Badminton and Brunch, while the second floor offers a more intimate studio for small classes and coaching sessions. Being here opens up so many possibilities for collaboration, visibility, and experimentation—and it’s easily accessible in midtown Manhattan.

You will hear more about it in the next Winter Newsletter.

As a member-led co-op, everyone contributes to its life and upkeep; I’ll probably join the facilities committee to put my prior experience as a Habitat for Humanity Americorps to work, and another working group– maybe the wellness committee? It’s only been a month so far, and already I’m learning what it means to be part of a collective that embodies cooperation in action.

It is not all roses, but there is enough collective will there to try to make it work.

Prime Produce offers us what we’ve always needed but perhaps didn’t know–  a home base where we can lab, experiment, and create without the heavy overhead of running a full facility. We’re deeply excited for what will grow here.
