Glossary

The Moving Rasa practice draws from movement, community, and diverse cultural traditions. These definitions offer a starting place. Their fullest meanings emerge through relationship and practice.

Affinity Communities
Programs created with and for people who share a lived experience, identity, or cultural connection. These spaces support belonging, trust, and exploration rooted in the wisdom and realities of each community.

Austronesian
A family of peoples, cultures, and languages whose ancestors spread by sea across Island Southeast Asia, the Pacific, Madagascar, and parts of East Africa. The Discovery Cards draw inspiration from many Austronesian worldviews that understand humans, ancestors, land, water, plants, and animals as deeply interconnected.

Discovery Troupe
An ongoing community of practice that explores the Discovery Cards through movement, conversation, creativity, and place. Members help discover new ways the cards can be lived while shaping the future of the project together.

Lens
There are six Moving Rasa Lenses that invite people to notice their relationship to others through movement. They are movements in relation to: being in the Body, being in a place, Mobilizing, Touching, Connecting, and Imagining. Lenses may be subtle or gross.

Rasa
A Sanskrit word describing the felt qualities that emerge through relationship and experience. At Moving Rasa, it refers to the unique qualities that unfold as we relate with ourselves, others, movement, place, and the living world.

Relationship
More than a connection between people, relationship is the ongoing process of influencing and being influenced by one another. In Moving Rasa, relationship extends to our bodies, places, objects, ancestors, communities, and the living world.

Suwung
An Indonesian word meaning empty, quiet, or spacious. In the Discovery Cards, Suwung Cards invite openness rather than direction, creating space for uncertainty, stillness, and possibilities that have not yet taken form.
