What Does It Mean to Marry a Dance?

In early November, we experienced a rare ceremony within Pencak Silat, an Indonesian martial art, honoring a lifelong commitment to Kembangan, its expressive movement practice.

An Evening to Celebrate Together

Come with your curiosity, your stories, and an appetite for connection. This is a chance to celebrate, ask questions, witness movement, and spend time together.

Stories & Conversation

Hear reflections from the Kembangan wedding ceremony and explore what it means to make a lifelong commitment to movement. We'll talk about Indonesian traditions, spirituality, rasa, and the relationships that shape our lives.

Bring your questions. No prior knowledge of Pencak Silat is needed.

Moving Rasa Discovery Troupe

Witness the Moving Rasa Discovery Troupe as we explore how movement, imagination, and relationships come alive through the Rasa Cards.

There will also be opportunities to join in, move, imagine, or simply watch.

Community Potluck

Bring a dish to share if you can! We'll gather around food, conversation, and the joy of being together.

Friends, family, and newcomers are welcome.

Celebrating the People Who Move With Us

Movement traditions live through relationships — between teachers and students, friends and communities, and across generations.

We're celebrating alongside our Pencak Silat community, including Steph and Ilana, teachers of the Brooklyn Pride Center Silat group, and Jacob, a senior student.

We're grateful for the people who nurture these traditions and the friendships that grow through practicing together.

Come Celebrate With Us!

All are welcome. Bring a friend, your curiosity, and a dish to share if you can.
