Practice Spaces

Find your way into Moving Rasa community

Moving Rasa offers a few ways to begin through gatherings, guided experiences, and ongoing spaces that help you reconnect with body, imagination, relationship, and aliveness.

Whether you are looking for a first experience or a deeper practice, this page can help you find your next step.

A place to begin through practice

Rasa is the Indonesian word for taste or essence.

Moving Rasa is rooted in Southeast Asian diaspora ways of knowing and offers embodied spaces where people can explore movement, reflection, culture, and relationship in lived and practical ways.

You do not need to be a dancer.
You do not need prior experience.
You are welcome to begin where you are.

Ways to join the Community

There is more than one way to enter Moving Rasa with others.

Some spaces invite you to witness, support, and take in the work without needing to move. Some invite live participation and reflection. Some are focused explorations through a particular medium, where rasa is approached through movement, art, food, story, or another shared form.

Wherever you begin, you do not need to arrive with experience. You can start where you are.

Not sure where to start?

Start with the space that feels most approachable.

Some people begin with a one-time gathering or potluck.
Some start with the Discovery Cards.
Some join virtually before coming in person.

You do not need to choose the perfect path.

You only need a place to begin.

A closer look at Rasa Labs

Rasa Labs moves through many doorways.
Each Lab brings a different medium into relationship with movement, culture, and lived experience.

You might enter through movement, food, martial arts, imagery, poetry, place-based exploration, or collaborative building practices.

Recent and recurring Labs have included Contacting Aliveness, Joy of Feasting, Pencak Silat, Discovery Card evenings, and Bamboo Playgrounds for Future Ancestors.

Each doorway leads into the same inquiry—how we connect to aliveness, to each other, and to what matters.

Our practice commitments

We’re building a community where depth doesn’t require perfection.

  • Consent-led pacing: you choose how far and how fast you go

  • Movement is invited and is optional: stillness, imagination, and micro-movement all count

  • Trauma-aware culture: we prioritize dignity, choice, and repair

  • Belonging over performance: no “right way” to be here

Dedicated Spaces

Some spaces are held for specific communities, including BIPOC, Affinity Spaces, Southeast Asian Diaspora men’s consciousness groups, and survivor-centered gatherings.

These spaces are smaller, intentional, and often ongoing. They are designed with care, confidentiality, and shared understanding.

Participation may involve an application or invitation process, depending on the space.

Come as you are

You do not need to prepare a better version of yourself before entering these spaces. You can come with what is real: your questions, uncertainty, curiosity, needs, or desire for connection.

Moving Rasa includes open gatherings, virtual spaces, and affinity-based containers so people can find forms of practice and community that meet them where they are.
